As we move into March, a time hopeful of warmer days, we also come upon a delightful and fun holiday, St. Patrick’s Day. In my curiosity, I thought, “what does the Bible say about luck?” And here is what I found:
The Bible doesn’t teach random luck — it teaches God’s providence. In Scripture, events aren’t attributed to chance but to God’s active involvement.
“The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord.” – Proverbs 16:33
Even when people used lots (like rolling dice), the outcome was understood to be in God’s hands. God is the one who orders our steps. Instead of luck, the Bible emphasizes God’s guidance.
“The human mind plans the way, but the Lord directs the steps.” – Proverbs 16:9
“The steps of a person are established by the Lord.” – Psalm 37:23
This means our lives aren’t ruled by randomness but by a God who is present and purposeful. Blessing comes from God, not fortune. Scripture consistently ties blessing to God’s character, not to chance.
“Every good and perfect gift is from above.” – James 1:17
The Bible warns against trusting in superstition. Anything that replaces trust in God — charms, omens, “good luck rituals” — is discouraged. “
Do not be terrified by signs in the heavens.” – Jeremiah 10:2
In other words: don’t let superstition guide your life. What is considered “luck” should be replaced with FAITH.
“We know that all things work together for good for those who love God.” – Romans 8:28
This doesn’t mean everything is easy — but it does mean nothing is random.
May you see the Blessings that God puts before you today,
Pastor Nicole
